Bloody Sunday and Monday in Kosovo – five killed by gunfire and one dead in an accident

The last 48 hours in Kosovo have been bloody, as five murders have been recorded, and one death as a result of a traffic accident.

The latest was tonight in Hajvali, Pristina – where, according to Gazeta Express’ sources, the victim was 41 years old, while the motives for the murder are suspected to be traffic disputes.

The news was confirmed to Gazeta Express by the Kosovo Police and the UCCK Emergency.

“Today at around 22:00, a shooting was reported in Hajvali, where one person was killed. The death of the male victim was confirmed by the medical team at the UCCK. The police have launched an investigation to clarify the case, while they are searching for the suspect who has already been identified,” said Flora Ahmeti, spokesperson for the Kosovo Police for the Pristina region.

“A person with gunshot wounds was brought in with no signs of life,” said Syla, Naser Syla, director of Emergency.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, three victims were registered in Gjilan, where the suspect is Mefail Shkodra, who, along with his two sons, are fugitives.

This tragic event was a national topic, with acting minister Xhelal Sveçla demanding an investigation by the Police, while acting minister Albulena Haxhiu demanded that the judges and prosecutors in the Mefail Shkodra case be subject to disciplinary measures.

The Police Inspectorate has indicated that upon their recommendation, four police officers have been suspended.

Another murder occurred yesterday evening. A person died in Prizren after being stabbed to death.

“The Basic Prosecution Office in Prizren – Department for Serious Crimes, informs the public that last night, on 10.08.2025, at around 08:30, in the Tusuz neighborhood on “Lapidari” street in Prizren, a person was stabbed with a sharp object (knife). Due to serious injuries, the same person was sent for further treatment to the UCCK in Pristina, but due to wounds in the chest, the victim died,” the Prosecution’s announcement states, among other things.

Meanwhile, on Monday, an accident involving six cars left one person dead and two others in serious condition.

Naser Syla from the UCCK Emergency Department confirmed this to Gazeta Express, the number of injured was 11, most of whom were released after medical treatment.

Many public figures asked the state to increase security measures in the country, due to the high number of murders and accidents. /Gazeta Express
