Two days ago, it was announced that the Second Instance of the Commercial Court has ruled in favor of the Energy Regulatory Office regarding the free electricity market. The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, together with the American, German-Kosovar, British Chambers of Commerce, the Kosovo Business Association, and the Kosovo Chamber of Hospitality and Tourism, reacted to this through a joint statement. This statement expresses “deep concern” about this situation.

The statement calls on ERO to reconsider the liberalization of the electricity market, and not to apply the interruption of energy supply to businesses, as it has announced will start on Saturday.

“We are already informed that some businesses have stopped working, while others are in the process of closing their departments. Also, many businesses are suffering losses due to contracts with international partners, which are below production costs due to the increase in energy prices,” the response states, among other things.

Communication:

The Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, the American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, the German-Kosovar Chamber of Commerce, the British Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, the Kosovo Business Association and the Kosovo Chamber of Hospitality and Tourism express deep concern about the situation created following the ruling issued by the Second Instance of the Commercial Court.

On this occasion, we ask the Energy Regulatory Office to reconsider the liberalization of the electricity market, and at the same time not to apply the interruption of energy supply to businesses, as it has announced that it will start from August 16. The interruption of energy supply will bring extraordinary consequences, starting from the reduction in the number of employees, the increase in prices, the increase in imports and the decrease in exports.

We are already informed that some businesses have stopped working, while others are in the process of closing their departments. Also, many businesses are suffering losses due to contracts with international partners, which are below production costs due to the increase in energy prices.

Business associations are continuing consultations with businesses on the next steps. We reiterate that no one is against energy liberalization, but against the form chosen by ERO, where above all there has been a lack of proper information about this very important process.

Also, the prices offered by licensed energy supply companies are many times higher than those in the region.
