The cast of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon are here to say bienvenido to fans in a new look at the upcoming third season of the beloved spin-off. As part of Collider’s Exclusive Preview event, our readers are receiving the red carpet treatment, with the folks behind The Walking Dead offshoot pulling back the curtain and inviting them to take a peek behind the curtain. Set for a premiere on Sunday, September 7, the next set of episodes will follow Norman Reedus’ Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol as they journey to Spain for the next stop on their globetrotting adventure.

As on-location as it gets, we’ve long known that the third season of Daryl Dixon was shot in multiple towns and cities across Spain. Viewers will certainly get a taste of what’s to come in today’s Collider exclusive featurette, as they hear from those closest to the production, like Reedus, McBride, and series creator David Zabel, who is beyond excited to be able to travel around the world for the project. Also showcased are the incredible costumes and architecture, as well as some unique members of the undead. As Reedus puts it, this season won’t only be about the stunning sights of Spain — although that’s certainly a plus — but that it will focus on “the process of how people deal with grief and what they celebrate.”

During a recent chat with Collider’s Steve Weintraub, Zabel teased the Spaghetti Western vibes that the creative team dug into during their time in Spain in Season 3, revealing:

“It’s very influenced by, I mean, it’s influenced by all these Spanish things, but one of the things that Jason and I did, who writes and sort of designs the show with the stories with me, is we sat down and watched a lot of Sergio Leone movies that were shot in Spain, because we were just interested in like, ‘Okay, that’s a cool, that’s a cool kind of storytelling and it’s made in the place that we’re going to be making our show.’ And so that influenced a lot of the story all the way through.”

The (Almost) End of the Road for Daryl and Carol

While we’re excited to see what lies ahead for Daryl, Carol, and the rest of the characters of the offshoot in the third season, we now know that this will serve as the penultimate chapter of the story. At San Diego Comic-Con, it was revealed that the production would come to an end following its fourth season, bookending what has been an incredibly loved and appreciated continuation in The Walking Dead universe.

Check out the featurette above and stay tuned to Collider for more to come from our Exclusive Preview event.
