Imam Mohammad Elsadi has launched a public appeal for accommodation for two Palestinian families whose children are recovering from medical treatment in Malta.
While thanking the Maltese government for hosting four Gazan families for medical treatment for their injured children, the director of Malta’s Islamic Centre on Thursday appealed for the public’s generosity to secure “affordable, adequate” accommodation for some of the families.
One family has already secured the rent of one flat for a year thanks to a donor from Libya.
In a public appeal on Facebook, the Imam said he was seeking two flats with two rooms each. One of the flats would be for two women with two orphan children who are injured.
The other flat would be for a father with his three injured children.
“Our generous brothers and sisters can help either by providing the accommodation free of charge or with token rent or by donating the rent,” Elsadi said.
Last April the Maltese government brought three boys and a girl to Malta from Gaza for medical treatment. The children, aged between 10 and 15 years, were accompanied by their relatives.
While the children received medical treatment at Mater Dei Hospital, their relatives were hosted by the Agency for the Protection of Asylum Seekers.
In 2024, a number of Palestinian children were also brought to Malta for medical treatment which included plastic surgery for severe burns and amputations.
Malta is expected to formally recognise the Palestinian state next month during the general assembly of the United Nations after the UK and France made similar declarations in July.
