The government of Nuevo Leon has reported progress on law enforcement initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and improving air quality across the state. Coordinated efforts were led by several agencies under the state’s Environmental Division, including the State Environmental Attorney’s Office, Fuerza Civil, the Comprehensive System for Ecological Management and Waste Processing (SIMEPRODE), the Institute of Mobility, Civil Protection, Parks and Wildlife, the Urban Development Trust, Water and Drainage, the Air Quality Agency, and the State Renewable Energy Agency.

State Environment Secretary Raúl Lozano Caballero said Fuerza Civil carried out four arrests for environmental offenses, seized five vehicles, and identified five illegal dumping sites in the Monterrey metropolitan area. Meanwhile, the State Environmental Attorney’s Office conducted 22 inspections, issued over 15 suspensions, applied more than 18 urgent measures, and filed six criminal complaints for environmental crimes. Ten vehicles and pieces of machinery used for illegal dumping or unauthorized land clearing were seized, and five recommendations were issued.

Regarding waste management, SIMEPRODE collected over 6,105 kilograms of waste in a week and intervened in 38 polluting sites through its Green Cities program. The Nuevo Leon Urban Development Trust organized 22 clean-up campaigns, collecting more than 50 tons of waste and restoring 58,000 square meters of public space.  Additionally, The Institute of Mobility sanctioned five trucks for improper waste transportation, while the Water and Drainage Authority closed a company for contaminating the sanitary drainage system.

For air quality, the Institute of Mobility issued 93 fines and detained six vehicles for visible atmospheric pollution. The Air Quality Agency maintained six consecutive days of monitoring across 15 stations and engaged six companies to improve emissions processes. The Renewable Energy Agency trained individuals and businesses to reduce energy use and adopt renewable sources to cut emissions.

Animal protection efforts included responding to 48 reports of mistreatment and rescuing 25 animals. Civil Protection responded to 12 fires—11 in urban areas—rescuing animals at risk. In conjunction, Parks and Wildlife authorities recovered seven protected wildlife specimens near the fires sites.
