Kosovo, North Macedonia and Albania continue firefighting activities that have affected the forest areas of this region affected by high temperatures.

Firefighters and emergency units from all three countries in the region are working intensively to bring the flames under control and prevent them from spreading further. Over the past two days, Kosovo has battled 57 fires, North Macedonia 27 and Albania 34.

Firefighters in Kosovo continue to fight fires, respectively, from 57 fire outbreaks in the country, locating 46 of them, while 11 outbreaks continue to be active.

The Kosovo Emergency Management Agency has announced that the management of the situation is being carried out in full coordination with the Professional Fire and Rescue Units, and has appealed to all citizens to show increased caution, avoid any action that could cause a fire, and immediately report any outbreak to the competent institutions.

The agency’s director, Genc Metaj, said in a press conference this week that in the last few days alone, a total of 633 fires have been reported across the entire territory of Kosovo. Compared to August 2024, Metaj added that this year has seen an increase in the number of fire cases.

Macedonian authorities, on the other hand, announced that as of noon today, ten wildfires have been recorded across the country, of which six are active, one is under control and three others have been extinguished.

Active fires are in Lojane and Tabanovce, where low vegetation and mixed forest are involved, as well as in the Municipality of Brod, in the Jasen area, where a fire involving a mixed forest has been active since yesterday. There are also active fires in the village of Bekirlija in Dolneni, the village of Romanovce in Kumanovo and the village of Sllupcan in Lipkovo.

Meanwhile, the fire in the Jegunovce Municipality between the villages of Rogaçevë, Jazhincë and Orashë e Poshtme, where pastures and mixed forest have been affected, is under control.

In the last 24 hours, 34 fires have also been registered in Albania. According to the Ministry of Defense, 27 have been extinguished, five are active and two are being monitored.

54 firefighting vehicles and 690 operational forces, supported by 110 troops of the Armed Forces with two firefighting vehicles, have been engaged in firefighting operations. Two helicopters of the Albanian Air Force and one helicopter from the United Arab Emirates were also deployed.

Kosovo, North Macedonia and Albania, like many other countries in Southern Europe, have faced forest fires caused by high temperatures and prolonged drought.

The country’s authorities emphasize that increased preparedness and rapid intervention remain key to preventing the most serious consequences, and call on citizens to show increased caution and immediately report any potential fire outbreaks.
