With the Texas Longhorns as a pillar of college athletics and a growing footprint in professional sports, Austin has plenty of teams and events to check out. The Daily Texan compiled a list of those sporting events for the latter half of August as the summer winds down.
Aug. 21 — Texas soccer vs. Arizona State
Texas soccer and head coach Angela Kelly are rolling into the 2025 season, replacing plenty of upper-class talent as they look to defend their Southeastern Conference championship. Make your way to Mike A. Myers Stadium to see the Longhorns’ second home game of the season as they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in an early-season contest. All of Texas soccer’s regular-season home games will be free for fans to enjoy.

Aug. 22-24 — Gambler Days, Professional Bull Riders
Whether you’re looking to break in those cowboy boots before the Longhorns’ first home football game or you’re simply a fan of bull riding, check out the Professional Bull Riders when they take over the Moody Center in late August. PBR is an international league that highlights top bull riding, blending traditional rodeo with high-stakes excitement. With a variety of teams across the country competing in PBR, Austin’s very own hometown team, the Gamblers, will have a stake in the competition.

Aug. 23 — Texas volleyball Orange and White Scrimmage
Get a first look at the 2025 Texas women’s volleyball team with a scrimmage against one another at Gregory Gym before the start of the regular season. The Longhorns look to return to the top of women’s volleyball after winning back-to-back national championships in 2022 and 2023, followed by an early exit from the NCAA Tournament last season.

Aug. 26-31 — Round Rock Express vs. Salt Lake Bees
The Texas Rangers Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express, will host the Salt Lake Bees in a six-game home stand at Dell Diamond. The ballpark hosts a variety of events and specials for fans to enjoy, with $2 Taco Tuesday, $1 hot dogs on Wednesday, “Thrifty Thursday” (select discounts on tickets, concessions and merchandise), “Friday Fireworks,” a bucket hat giveaway on Saturday and “Kids Day” on Sunday to conclude the series.

Aug. 28 — Texas soccer vs. TCU
Need a break during the first week of classes? Check out another one of Texas soccer’s non-conference matchups as it revs up for conference play. The Longhorns will take on former Big 12 rival TCU, with both teams coming off solid 17-win seasons.
