Aircraft that do not belong to Kosovo institutions or KFOR have flown over at least two very sensitive institutions in the country more than a month ago.
These drones, which are suspected to be from Serbia, flew over the High Security Prison and according to television sources, the size of the drones resembled agricultural drones.
One of the points where it is suspected that Serbian drones have taken over is Dumosh airport, where it was recently taken over by the Kosovo Security Force, and this is one of the closest points to the border with Serbia that belongs to the Kosovo Army.
Dukagjini has been in possession of these images since the beginning of the investigation into this case and initially the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, had confirmed that they started monitoring and then, without specifying in detail to whom they belonged, they said that they did not pose a threat to security.
“Regarding your questions, after reviewing the case, our observations have not revealed any threat to security in the area. We will continue to closely monitor the situation in close cooperation with the security stakeholders,” KFOR said, RTVDukagjini reports.
The Kosovo Police was initially notified of their existence on Kosovo institutions and the same in coordination with KFOR is dealing with this issue.
According to the director of the Police, there are other cases where suspicious drones have been observed.
“KFOR is responsible for monitoring Kosovo’s airspace. There has been some information about flights that citizens have seen and we engage our units as needed, but in that part, we have not had any case that we shot down any drones. We have informed KFOR, they are dealing with this work and we are working in cooperation with them”, said Hoxha.
The information had also gone to the other institution responsible for the airspace in Kosovo, Kosovo Civil Aviation, which has also confirmed that they have received the notification on the unauthorized operations of unmanned aerial vehicles over the areas mentioned by the television.
The former Dumoshi airport was put into use by the Government of Kosovo a year ago on the grounds that it is of particular strategic importance for the deployment of the country’s military capacities in that space.
While in the High Security Prison, in addition to many convicts, there are also terrorism suspects in the Banjska attack of 2023.
