The Green Party, ADPD, has requested that an investigation be opened by the Auditor General into a €6 million direct order issued by Infrastructure Malta for the reconstruction of the quarter-mile racecourse in Hal Far, ADPD Deputy Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo stated on Thursday.

Cacopardo said that the direct order was issued by Infrastructure Malta on 1 August, and continued that in light of this multi-million euro direct order, the ADPD has asked for the Auditor General to investigate whether there is blatant abuse being committed by the agency.

In the letter to the Auditor General, Cacopardo said that the direct order was issued to the company known as Elbros Construction Limited, and that the €6 million figure excludes VAT.

The ADPD Deputy Chairperson continued that, in light of the provisions of regulation 151 of the Public Procurement Regulations of 2016, he is requesting an investigation into this particular direct order to be conducted in order to determine whether there is blatant abuse of the public procurement regulations in the issuance of the direct order.
