A drug trafficker has escaped from the Kosovo Police, abandoning a bag containing 21 kg of drugs. The incident occurred yesterday evening, around 8:30 p.m.

The incident occurred on the green border line between Albania and Kosovo, in the Vermica section.

According to information, a suspected drug trafficker, carrying a backpack, attempted to enter Kosovo through the Green Line. At that moment, he encountered the Kosovo Police’s anti-drug unit, who were on an operation and in civilian clothes.

Sources say that, as soon as he was noticed by the police and after they introduced themselves as part of the anti-drug unit, the suspect pointed his gun at the officers, posing a threat to their lives. He then abandoned the bag and quickly fled the scene.

After checking the bag left at the scene, it was determined that it contained a significant amount of narcotics. According to measurements made by the Anti-Drug Unit, it was confirmed that it was about 21 kilograms of marijuana.

“The Kosovo Police, respectively the investigative unit from the Border Department on 20.08.2025, at around 20:30 during investigative actions in the Kosovo-Albania border area along the green line, encountered a suspect who was carrying a bag and was armed. The same person, when he noticed the police officers, pointed the firearm at the police officers, posing a direct threat to them. The police officers attempted to stop the suspect by introducing himself, but the same person threw the bag and managed to escape into the mountainous area towards Albania.

Regarding the case, a bag was checked where a quantity of suspected narcotic substance of the type marijuana was observed, which after measurement by the Anti-Drug Unit resulted in about 21 kilograms (marijuana). The competent prosecutor was notified of the actions taken regarding the case, upon whose instruction the case was initiated, which remains to be handled by the DHTN – Prizren”, the Kosovo Police announces.
The police have launched further investigations to identify and arrest the suspect, while the case has been described as an attempt to traffic narcotics and an attack on police officers. “Regarding the threat to the lives of the police officers by the trafficker who pointed the gun at them, the spokesman for the Prizren Regional Police, Shaqir Bytyçi, stated for Report TV that there were no shots fired at the police officers.”
