ROCHESTER, Minn. — The City of Rochester, in collaboration with Destination Medical Center, is advancing its Downtown Building Energy Transition (DBET) initiative to promote cleaner energy use in municipal buildings.

The project, which successfully converted City Hall to geothermal energy, is now expanding to include other city facilities.

Construction for the next phase will start next week. From August 27 to August 30, several travel disruptions are expected:

– Full closure of Civic Center Drive SE between 1 Street SE and 2 Street SE.

– No left turns from eastbound 2 Street SE onto northbound Civic Center Drive.

– Closure of southbound lanes on Civic Center Drive from E Center Street to 1 Street SE.

– Sidewalk closures on both sides of Civic Center Drive SE between 1 Street SE and 2 Street SE.

For more details on downtown travel, visit www.downtownrochesterconstruction.org. Phase 2 of DBET will create a thermal energy network connecting key facilities like the Mayo Civic Center and Rochester Public Library, utilizing geothermal energy for heating and cooling. This system will allow energy exchange between buildings, maintaining natural gas as a backup.
