The Political Party “Moldova Mare”, led by Victoria Furtuna, and the Political Party “For People, Nature and Animals”, led by Ion Dron, were not registered in the race for the parliamentary elections on September 28. The Political Party Alliance “Moldovenii”, led by Denis Rosca, was registered. The decisions in this regard were taken during today’s meeting of the Central Electoral Commission, reports IPN.
In the case of the “Moldova Mare” formation, the electoral authority found that the candidate list does not meet the gender criterion, following the exclusion of a person convicted of domestic violence. Rapporteur Tatiana Barburos explained that this situation represents a legal prohibition to run for office. Following the exclusion of the aforementioned person, the representation quota decreased from 70% to 30%, which implicitly attests to the non-compliant nature of the candidate list registration request.
The party’s president, Victoria Furtuna, stated that she was not informed in time and characterized the situation as a deliberate action: “These are biased actions of the Central Electoral Commission against a patriotic party. I will contest this decision in case a negative stance is taken.”
In turn, the head of the CEC, Angelica Caraman, dismissed the accusations, stating that the institution treats all submitted documents with utmost attention: “You cannot blame us for not communicating information that was specifically important to you.”
And the PONA Party was also rejected, again on the grounds of non-compliance with the gender quota, as well as incomplete documentation. The Commission found that the political party did not ensure compliance with its own statutory requirements regarding the procedure for nominating candidates, and the conditions for compiling the list of candidates were not met.
The leader of the formation, Ion Dron, stated that he expected such a decision, citing repeated difficulties in opening a bank account and accusing that his party is being “hunted” by the current government. He also contested the conclusion of the reporters, according to which some signatories would not have known what they were supporting, considering this statement a serious accusation.
The only one accepted in today’s meeting for the electoral race was the Political Party Alliance “Moldovenii”. However, the Vice President of the CEC, Pavel Postica, warned that the party has the obligation to carefully check the lists, in order to avoid having among the candidates people affiliated with other parties or political blocs, given that more than half of them are not party members. According to Postica, this could lead to the cancellation of the decision. At the same time, the CEC approved the electoral symbol of the party and confirmed the treasurer responsible for managing the electoral finances.
The election campaign for the parliamentary elections officially begins on August 29.
