Sen. Jon Ossoff spoke to a crowd of more than 1,000 at his “Rally for our Republic” in downtown Savannah on Saturday afternoon. The event marked the second major rally of his campaign as he gears up for the 2026 Senate race.”Fear is the currency of tyranny. We’re bigger than that,” Ossoff said. Savannah Alderman Kurtis Purtee attended the rally and shared his support for Ossoff. “We have to have the right people in office,” Purtee said. “And Jon is the guy that we need in that office.”WJCL 22 News spoke to Congressman Buddy Carter, who is also running for the Senate seat. “Those values are not of Georgians. They are of someone else. Why would you vote to increase taxes on Georgians? Look, Jon Ossoff represents they/them. I represent you. And that’s what Georgians need,” Carter said. Ruth Arnone is a local resident who arrived two hours early to secure her spot at the rally.She shared her dissatisfaction with Carter’s tenure. “Buddy Carter has really done just about absolutely nothing for anyone,” Arnone said. “He’s been there forever, and it’s time for a change. I believe that Jon Ossoff will support the people.”Ossoff’s rally ended with a message to fight and win. “Savannah, are you ready to fight? Savannah, are you ready to win?” Ossoff asked.Ossoff emphasized the importance of voter turnout ahead of next year’s election, urging Georgians to make their voices heard at the ballot box.Ossoff’s first “Rally for our Republic” took place in Atlanta this past March.
