The recess for deputies in the Parliament of North Macedonia ends

The annual recess for MPs has officially ended. The work of the Legislative House begins today with a meeting of the Speaker of the Assembly, Afrim Gashi, with parliamentary rapporteurs, in which he will inform about the current activities in the legislative chamber, after regular coordination with the coordinators of the parliamentary groups. On the Assembly website, apart from the briefing with journalists, the Assembly has no other activities planned until the end of the week.
The MPs’ recess was interrupted on August 16 when an extraordinary session was called for the Draft Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Electoral Code, after a shortened procedure that did not pass due to the lack of Badinter’s majority. Earlier, on August 13, the Committee on Elections and Appointments also held a session, which formed a Commission for the selection of candidates for the chairman of the State Commission for the Prevention of Corruption. Usually, the MPs’ recess begins after the Ilinden National Holiday.
On August 9, Assembly Speaker Gashi announced local elections for October 19. The Assembly is expected to hold plenary and committee sessions before the start of the local election campaign on September 29.
In the latest briefing with journalists, the Speaker of the Assembly recalled that the legislative chamber is in permanent session and that if necessary, deputies will be summoned to sessions.
