The Facebook page of the National Library of Malta appears to have been hacked, now featuring images of scantily clad women.
The page seems to have first been compromised just over a week ago, when a video of a man apparently carrying out repair work was posted to the page.
On Sunday, images of scantily clad women appeared on the page, drawing reactions from social media users who warned the page had been hacked.
The last legitimate post on the page is dated October 2023.
Official information, including contact details for the library, its phone number and the website address of Malta Libraries, did not appear to have been edited.
The library is home to historical documents, books and journals by Maltese authors.
This is not the first official entity in Malta to have seen its Facebook account hacked; in July 2023, the Malta Film Commission’s Facebook page was taken down after it was hacked and its profile picture replaced by a photo of a blonde woman in a car.
It has since reappeared, however, now apparently advertising the services of a Vietnamese “astrologist and psychic”.
