Racist chants at sports fields in North Macedonia continue to be repeated, casting a shadow over local football, reports Telegrafi.

The latest case was recorded last night in Kavadarci, during the match between Pelister and Skopje, where offensive chants with racist content against Albanians were heard from the stands.

This incident comes just a month after a similar incident in Kumanovo, showing that the problem remains present and recurring. The refrain “let the damn Albanians understand, the Macedonian name will not disappear” has already become one of the most heard chants at these matches.

The Football Federation of North Macedonia reacted to the report of the meeting delegate. The official statement of the FFM states:

“Following the report of the match delegate for the match between KF Pelisteri and KF Skopje, the FFM Match Commission has referred KF Pelister to the Disciplinary Commission for further proceedings. The report concerns offensive chanting by some fans in the match between Pelisteri and Skopje, played within the 3rd round of the First Football League of North Macedonia.”

This is not the first incident of this kind in local football, and it remains to be seen what concrete measures the Disciplinary Commission will take against the club from Bitola. /Telegraph/
