The situation was calmer in Mesolcina, which was hit hard by bad weather last year: 12.4 millimeters were measured in Grono, the lowest value south of the Alps. In Sottoceneri, the rain was still abundant, with 31.3 millimeters in Stabio and 28 in Lugano. On the rhetorical side, the data show 42.6 millimeters in San Bernardino and 20.5 in Soglio, in Bregaglia, writes SRF.

The most intense rainfall is expected in Sopraceneri, for which MeteoSwitzerland has issued a level 4 warning. In some areas of Grisons, level 5, the maximum risk level, remains in force. The St. Moritz region is under a level 4 alert. According to the forecast, rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day today, Thursday and tomorrow, until midnight.

    Preventive measures

Preventive measures have been taken in both Ticino and Graubünden, such as the closure of the Bavona Valley road starting from Cavergno from 8 pm on Wednesday. The connection with Val Pontirone is also closed. In Mesolcina, it was decided to evacuate in advance several houses in the Lostallo area, already affected last year by bad weather. In total, 14 people have been displaced.

During the night, FART also announced the suspension of the Centovallina service between Domodossola and the state border, i.e. on the Italian part of the railway. Replacement buses have been provided in both directions. For the timetable and updated information, users are invited to consult the website. The resumption of traffic may occur in the afternoon, but only after the intensity of the rainfall has decreased and a favorable outcome of an inspection of the line.
