Speaker of the House of Representatives Anġlu Farrugia received Khaled Anis, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the Republic of Malta, for a farewell call at the Parliament of Malta, the Department of Information said Friday.
During the meeting, Speaker Anġlu Farrugia conveyed his appreciation for Ambassador Anis’s service in strengthening the long-standing relations between Malta and Egypt, since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1965. He underlined Malta’s commitment to further deepening these ties, founded on shared interests in peace, stability, and prosperity in the Mediterranean region.
The statement said Ambassador Anis expressed his gratitude for the support extended to him during his tenure and reaffirmed Egypt’s willingness to continue building on the positive cooperation that has developed between the two countries in various fields, including political dialogue, trade, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people links.
The Speaker commended Egypt’s important role as a regional partner and as a bridge for dialogue in the Mediterranean, particularly in the context of current regional challenges in especially Egypt’s central role in mediating in Palestine. He also emphasised Malta’s support for continued engagement between the European Union and Egypt, noting the importance of addressing shared challenges such as stability, migration, and sustainable development.
