The Malta Red Cross has warned the public about individuals falsely claiming to be collecting money on its behalf.

In a social media post, the humanitarian organisation said it had been alerted to unauthorised solicitations for donations that it has not endorsed or authorised. It stressed that all official fundraising campaigns are always announced through its official channels.

“We’ve been alerted to unauthorised solicitations for donations allegedly on behalf of the Red Cross. Please note that the Red Cross has not authorised or endorsed this collection. Any official fundraising is always clearly communicated through our official channels,” the Malta Red Cross said on Friday.

The Red Cross urged anyone approached for a donation to ask for proper identification and to verify details via its website.

“If you suspect fraudulent activity, do not engage,” the organisation said, advising people to report any suspicious approaches to shop management or the local authorities.

The Red Cross thanked the public for “helping protect the integrity” of its humanitarian work and ensuring that donations go directly to those most in need.
