The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Dimal Basha, commemorated the missing persons from the last war in Kosovo, on the International Day for Missing Persons.

He wrote that this remains one of the most serious and painful wounds for the country and Kosovar society.

“Today, August 30, marks the International Day of the Missing. Therefore, as an Assembly, we remember over 1584 citizens of the Republic of Kosovo who are still forcibly disappeared by Serbia during the years 98/99. On behalf of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, I express my pain and solidarity with all families who are still facing the absence of their loved ones and who continue to seek the truth and justice they deserve,” Basha wrote in a Facebook status.

He also called on Serbia to fulfill its international commitments, including the Ohrid Annex of March 18, 2023, and the Joint Declaration of May 2, 2023, by indicating the whereabouts of the forcibly disappeared and by opening state archives.

“We firmly demand the punishment of all those responsible for these crimes. Our esteemed international friends, Serbia, in addition to having committed genocide and killed over 10 innocent civilians, is still killing our citizens every day 26 years later, not revealing the fate of those who were forcibly disappeared. Therefore, we ask you to increase the pressure on the state of Serbia to fulfill these obligations urgently, because first and foremost it is a moral and human obligation, but also an international obligation,” he wrote on Facebook.
