The bridges which connect the different wings of Malta’s Parliament building are being re-opened for use after structural investigations took place, the Speaker’s Office said in a statement on Wednesday.

The two bridges had been closed since mid-April after signs of damage believed to stem from shoddy construction works were noted.

The Speaker said on Wedneday that the bridges had now been reopened after interventions by architects appointed by Malita Investments plc.

The re-opening is temporary until the necessary works on the bridges are carried out.

The bridges in question are situated on levels 1 and 3 of the building.  One is designated for use by members of the public while the other is designated for use by officials.

Parliament will be back in session on 15 September.
