Teenage forward Luke Brooke-Smith says the adrenaline hasn’t stopped pumping since his late call-up to the New Zealand men’s national squad ahead of the two-match Soccer Ashes series against Australia.
The Wellington Phoenix player says his selection to the squad for the first time was “a dream come true” and he was enjoying being part of the All Whites camp in Canberra.
“I got the call-up and I don’t think I’ve stopped being on adrenaline since,” he said.
Brooke-Smith (17), who could become one of New Zealand’s youngest debutants of the modern era, said he had been welcomed into the squad by teammates, some of whom were past or present clubmates at the Phoenix.

About the Soccer Ashes
The trophy was created in 1923, containing ashes of cigars smoked by Australian captain Alex Gibb and New Zealand captain George Campbell following the first meeting between the two nations in Australia in June 1923.
The trophy went missing in 1954 but was rediscovered during the COVID pandemic and returned to Football Australia.
