Kosovar activist who lives and works in the United States of America, Uk Lushi, has said that the mistreatment of former KLA leaders in The Hague by John Devaney, who was a prison guard when he was arrested and is now a prosecutor at the Special Court, is horrific.

In the “Special Edition” show on Klan Kosova, he also shared an experience of his when he went to visit The Hague to meet Kadri Veseli, the former Speaker of the Parliament, who had told him, according to him, that he was a very bad prison guard, and that Lushi was lucky that he was not there that day.

Lushi said he doesn’t know if it’s John Devaney, the person Veseli was talking about.

“Then we continued the conversation, we continued the meeting, the guards were of course armed, which means that in case of threat they could use weapons and kill the people who are detained there. Then at noon, President Thaçi came in, he was very nervous and told me that a person from the prison directorate had tried to stop the meeting he had asked to have with me,” said Lushi.

He added that Kosovo institutions should do more for the four who are currently on trial in The Hague, namely Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.

“The Special Court is a test for the state of Kosovo, the Kosovo Liberation Army is the foundation of the state of Kosovo, and if people are targeted and attacked because they founded the state of Kosovo and there is no reaction, the state has failed. Because the state is ultimately an organization of a community, where the people of that community receive the right to enjoy that organization, but also the obligation to protect each other,” said Lushi.
