The Polish national team had a very solid group stage, finishing with a record of three wins and two losses. First, they pulled off a huge upset by defeating Greece, and then in a direct battle for survival against Georgia, they overcame the favored opponent 84-76 to book their ticket among the last 16.
As expected, Jusuf Nurkic led the way in that decisive win with 15 points and 12 rebounds. However, special praise should go to John Roberson, who joined the team just before the start of the tournament after Xavier Castaneda was ruled out. After a slow start, Roberson kept improving as the games went on, and in the decisive matchups against Greece and Georgia he was one of the best players on the floor, scoring 18 against the Greeks and 15 against Georgia. Edin Atić also deserves recognition, showing impact on both ends of the floor. Playing with great courage and a willingness to take responsibility, he has been alongside Nurkic one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most consistent performers.
