The Kosovo Police today marks the 26th anniversary of its establishment.

The Kosovo Police was officially established on September 6, 1999, as one of the key institutions for the country’s security after the end of the war in Kosovo.
On September 6, 1999, the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, in accordance with United Nations Resolution 1244, opened the Police School and began training candidates for members of the Kosovo Police.
In the year of independence in 2008, the Kosovo Police had already gone through the transition in almost all of its units and had taken over the powers from the UNMIK police, preparing to take on responsibilities for the security of the state of Kosovo. /Express/
