Ongoing unrest in the Middle East is causing delays in some Greece-Israel defense programs, officials said, despite the strategic importance of the partnership.
The main potential delay concerns a government-to-government deal for PULS multiple rocket launchers. Greece seeks the full range of munitions, including Accular 160 mm, EXTRA, and Predator Hawk missiles with 300-kilometer range, totaling around €700 million. Co-production in Greece is planned, but officials are cautious about appearing to manufacture offensive weapons amid the Gaza conflict.
High-level talks between Athens and Jerusalem cover broader strategic issues, while Greek airports have recently hosted Israeli state aircraft for confidential operations.
Other programs, such as the “Achilles Shield” air defense systems, are affected by regional tensions and competing European offers. Operational projects continue, including upgrades to AH-64A Apache helicopters and deliveries of Spike missiles and Spice 1000/2000 smart bomb kits.
