New rules for travel to EU countries from October 12, MIA: Will inform citizens in time

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Macedonia has warned that it will inform citizens in a timely manner about the new rules that will apply to travel to European Union countries, in order to avoid delays at border points.
The Director of the Public Security Bureau, Aleksandar Janev, said today that they are in constant communication with European partners and that, according to the current regulations, citizens will have to fill out online applications for entry. This process, as stated, will take a few minutes, but will be valid for two years.
“According to EU rules, the application will be completed online. It will take some time, but it will be valid for two years. When we have official information from the EU, it will be shared immediately with our citizens. It is our obligation to fully inform them to avoid obstacles at the border,” Janev declared.
The new Entry-Exit System (EES) will be launched on 12 October 2025 and will be gradually implemented over six months in 29 European countries (25 EU Schengen area members, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland). Full implementation is expected to start on 10 April 2026, when the electronic calculation of days of stay in the EU will also start.
Meanwhile, for the other system, ETIAS, no action is yet required from travelers. The EU will inform in due course about the exact date of its launch.
