In an attempt to remove Banksy’s art, the UK government has created a more iconic symbol of injustice in the UK.

  1. I imagine so many of the people in these comments have barely even given grade listed buildings a thought more than once or twice in their lives, now here they come on their high horse crying about this being ‘vandalism’.

  2. France just arrested 200 protesters as well but where’s the “FrEe sPeEch is OvEr” outrage? Or is it a UK special only? Lol, ya’ll fall for propaganda so easily, it’s so retarded

The building is grade 1 listed… People can’t just spray paint images on grade 1 listed buildings, even Banksy. As a Briton, I am perfectly willing to point out the free speech problem we have in the UK, but please try to keep things in perspective.

Edit: Why am I being downvoted so heavily for stating a fact? Absolutely ridiculous.

I find it kind of hard to believe that ol Banksy would be siding against the judiciary in this one

arent all the anti government protestors in the yookay generally all racist not-sees?

  5. – normal person makes graffiti: “vandalism”

    – banksy makes graffiti: “high form of real art, dont touch and dont paint over. so what if law states its illegal? this is necessary social commentary.”

this guy is way overrated and should paint somewhere where its appropriate. Hes only allowed to do this because of his fame, not because of any merit.

Unpopular opinion: Vandalism of a historic Grade 1 listed building and support for a terrorist organization is bad.

  7. im so cynical i was half expecting them to wait for some billionaire to buy the wall so they could ironically display it in one of their castles.

So is the judge clubbing the people who protested the immigrant rapes? What’s the context here

The uk government aren’t responsible for the maintenance of a graded building it’s the building managers.

  10. Oh my GOD, we get it’s a historic building and “vandalism” must be removed in all cases, so does Banksy! That’s why he chose it. It’s like you’re all trying your hardest to be dense. The removal IS the art, the act of the government being forced to remove art criticizing the government IS the message. And Banksy chose their painting materials that left behind this staining after being washed off.

no public sector industry could orchestrate something as simple as graffiti removal in only 24 hours, i wouldn’t be surprised if this was part of the performance.

  12. This just reinforced the idea that Banksy was the dude removing it…

Or perhaps Banksy outsmart them by using a paint that would do this when removed.

I would love to see the faces of the people who wanted to erase the art when they watch these posts, realizing that they just made it even more iconic.

  14. Banksy specializes in this sort of stuff, he even “self destructed” some of his most iconic works. Even if they got rid of it completely the Streisand Effect would be activated.

  15. Yeah but the EU isn’t much better, especially with that Chat Control they want to enact. The whole world is sliding into authoritarianism and no one is doing anything….

Removing that is completely normal even if it’s a “big message” to pseudo artsy people

  17. A lot of people across the internet seem upset and/or convicted in the statement made by the art due to it being removed. Funnily enough I would argue the biggest statement that could be made was if it was left, as it would demonstrate a legal exception made presumably due to the artists fame and the perceived monetary value of the art.
What are people expecting to be done here if not to remove the art as if it was any other piece of graffiti?

  18. Tricky-Efficiency709 on

Yes they have. I think it looks better this way. Even though this is, “the man’s” version of his work.

  19. Leyland trade paint has definitely been used to cover up lol bit of Johnstone stain away would cover that right up amateurs

  20. The working class being a bunch of bootlickers will never not be funny to me. I didn’t know there were people who take such a huge interest in keeping government buildings vandalism free

The UK is full off the rails crazy. People getting arresting over fair criticisms online and just about anything.
