One of the most prestigious international basketball tournaments is moving into the semifinal round this weekend. EuroBasket 2025 is being played in Poland, Latvia, Cyprus and Finland with some of the biggest names in the NBA taking part in the event.

Luka Dončić did everything he could on Wednesday, but it was not enough to save Slovenia from elimination.

Dončić recorded 39 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists in a losing effort as Germany knocked off Slovenia 99-91 in the final game of the quarterfinal round. Franz Wagner and Dennis Schröder led the way offensively with Wagner posting 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Schröder contributed 20 points and 7 assists in the victory.

Schröder also delivered a meme-worthy reaction to Andreas Obst’s three-pointer that put the Germans ahead in the fourth quarter.

In earlier action on Wednesday, Finland advanced to the semifinal round for the first time ever with a 93-79 win over Georgia.

Lauri Markkanen had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks, but it was Mikael Jantunen who led the Finns with 19 points, including three three pointers — one of which was a buzzer-beater at the end of the first quarter.

Finland as a team was 17-for-31 from three-point range in the win and led the game for over 35 minutes.

From there, teams will whittle down quickly. The quarterfinals will take place Sept. 9 and Sept. 10, and the semifinals will occur Sept. 12.

Both the third-place game and the final will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Who is playing in EuroBasket 2025?

Dončić and Jokić aren’t the only NBA stars taking part in EuroBasket 2025. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo will suit up for Greece, where he’ll play with his brothers Thanasis and Kostas.

Some of the other big names at the event include Kristaps Porziņģis, Nikola Vučević, Lauri Markkanen, Bilal Coulibaly, Franz Wagner, Jonas Valančiūnas, Alperen Şengün and Deni Avdija, per Yahoo Sports’ Morten Stig Jensen.

Notably, France will not have San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama or Minnesota Timberwolves big man Rudy Gobert for the tournament. Wembanyama missed time last year due to a blood clot and is prioritizing rest this offseason. Gobert did not deal with a major injury last season, but also cited rest as a reason for skipping EuroBasket 2025.
