After going on the attack – including a long stint solo yesterday on the way to victory – Irish U23 rider Seth Dunwoody again proved very strong today, Saturday, in Romania (Photo: Ana Georgescu)
Seth Dunwoody (Bahrain Victorious Devo) has today, Saturday, retained his lead in the points and climbers’ classifications after stage 4 of Turul Romaniei (2.2) in Romania.
He made the front group as the field split in the crosswinds and then acted as final lead-out man for his team mate in the sprint.
Dunwoody, who was 2nd on stage 1 and won yesterday’s stage 3, has been very aggressive at this race from the outset. That has included dropping his two breakaway companions on late climbs yesterday before riding solo for a time, being caught by some chasers but still winning.
And on today’s 212km stage 4, the longest of the race, the Irishman was among the group of strongest riders able to cope with the crosswinds on exposed roads. He then supported his team in the final sprint to the finish line in Slobozia.
However, that team mate was just pipped on the finish line for victory by German Jonathan Rottmann (Rembe Pro Cycling).
More to come.
