Two Scandinavian countries, Norway and Denmark, stated today (12/9) that they will not boycott Eurovision 2026 and are continuing preparations for their national finals to select their entries.
Norway will not boycott
Despite the fact that Norway’s center-left government won the recent parliamentary elections, adopting a much more pro-Palestinian rhetoric compared to the center-right opposition, the country’s public broadcaster announced a short while ago that it will not boycott Eurovision 2026. Preparations are ongoing for the national final, through which Norway’s entry will once again be selected.
“NRK is actively participating in this process, where the EBU will conduct a thorough evaluation with all member countries in early December. NRK currently stands by its decision to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. We trust the process and look forward to the EBU’s conclusions in December.”
Denmark is monitoring developments
Neighboring Denmark also does not plan to boycott Eurovision 2026, at least for now. Denmark’s public broadcaster is monitoring the situation while preparing for its own national final, scheduled for February 14.
“It should be up to each individual country to decide what is right for them. DR is closely monitoring the situation and is constantly discussing it with other Scandinavian public broadcasters,” said Gustav Lützhøft, senior editor of DR Culture, Debate and Music, in a written response to DR.dk.
So far, the countries that have announced their intention to withdraw from Eurovision 2026 if Israel participates are Slovenia, the Netherlands, and Ireland, while Spain, Iceland, and Belgium will announce their decisions in December, following the EBU General Assembly, which will determine the matter.
