North Macedonia withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest after the 2022 edition and has not returned since, despite its continued participation in Junior Eurovision.
In recent months, many rumours have circulated suggesting that the country may return to the Contest, with the name of Bobi Antonov (North Macedonia’s representative at Junior Eurovision 2008) reportedly having contact to the public broadcaster as a potential candidate for representation.
In recent news, a council meeting was recently held at MRT headquarters, with Eurovision being one of the central topics. Specifically, following the publication of the minutes, it was revealed that the public broadcaster has received numerous messages from citizens requesting North Macedonia’s return to the Contest.
“The return of the North Macedonia as a participant in Eurovision is also a request made by part of the citizens who contacted the Programming Council via email. Their arguments are that this would be beneficial for the promotion of the country, North Macedonian musicians and creators, as well as because of the large television audience that this music contest attracts. Furthermore, it was assessed that a public discussion should be opened on this matter, in order to properly examine the public’s interest in North Macedonia’s return to this event.”
It seems that North Macedonia is closer than ever to returning to the Contest. Would you like to see the country returning to Eurovision?
