GOBBLER’S KNOB — There was a large turnout at Gobbler’s Knob on Saturday at the Groundhog Picnic, and the public also received an update as to what the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club has been working on behind the scenes including some major updates at Gobbler’s Knob.
Tom Dunkel, Punxsutawney Groundhog Club president, said that they are going to begin paving the driveway, parking areas and around the back of the building.
“It’s going to look really great,” Dunkel said, adding that they are going to have a brand new Groundhog Zoo at The Knob and it will be opening soon.
He said that will be the home of Sunny and Shadow, Phil and Phyllis’s children who were born a year ago.
He said they have received a grant to remodel the building.
“We’ll remodel the hall, the complete inside will be remodeled, the bathrooms will be remodeled and increase the capacity,” Dunkel said. “We’re going to remodel the second floor of our office building and that work will be done in June of 2026 and it should be done by September.”
Dunkel said they’re going to put in a new kitchen with new appliances, and that is going to be done this December.
“And lastly we are going to expand our footprint, we’re going to build a new stage behind this stage,” Dunkel said. “It’s going to be elevated with a room underneath it so we can have a green room for the people who work and participate in our Groundhog Day activities.”
