The OSCE Election Observation Mission will monitor the October 19 local elections with 274 observers, of which 250 are short-term.

“The Election Observation Mission will follow the implementation of the local elections in the Republic of North Macedonia, scheduled for October 19, 2025, with the engagement of 24 long-term observers and 250 short-term observers,” the State Audit Office announced.

The Chairman of the Entity, Maksim Acevski, today held a meeting with the Head of the OSCE-ODIHR observation mission, Matteo Mekaçi. The financing of political parties during election campaigns was also discussed.

Otherwise, while the legal framework provides the basis for democratic elections, it lacks sufficient regulation for a presidential race, assesses the OSCE-ODIHR final report published on September 23 on the 2024 presidential and early parliamentary elections in North Macedonia. The report offers 25 recommendations to North Macedonia to improve the electoral process and support efforts to bring it further in line with the commitments made by all OSCE states, as well as with other international obligations and standards for democratic elections.

The election campaign begins on September 29 and will last until October 17. On October 19, voting will take place in 80 municipalities and in the City of Skopje at 3,480 polling stations. The second round of elections will be held on November 2.
