A sunflower placed by a passerby graces an 1898 sculpture in Kraków, Poland’s Rynek Glówny (Main Market Square) on Monday by artist Teodor Rygier of Polish poet Adam Mickiewicz. Kraków, a southern Polish city near the border of the Czech Republic and known for its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter, is revered as the cultural capital of the country. Kraków was not bombed in World War II and its historic buildings remain intact.
