WASHINGTON (Gray DC) –

A Republican Congressman is challenging the White House to do more to support Ukraine in their war efforts against Russia.

Rep. Don Bacon (R-NE) in a sit-down interview said President Donald Trump is on the wrong side of history in this fight.

“You don’t ignore what goes on in Ukraine and the President has an inability to act on this and I don’t know why,” Bacon said. “But I expect more out of a President and a Republican President.”

The interview came after several fiery social media posts where Bacon directly called out Donald Trump.

Bacon said he is a Ronald Reagan-style Republican, who believes in peace through strength. He is deeply concerned about the future of the world order and supports any legislative action arming Ukraine and sanctioning Russia and its allies.

“China and India are largely propping up the Russian economy,” Bacon said. “And they’re propping up a war against a democracy. I support secondary sanctions; I’m the first Republican to get on a democrat bill to discharge one to force a vote on the floor.”

Even though the war is thousands of miles away, Bacon wants his Nebraskan constituents to carefully think about what could happen next.

Question: “Do you think American security one way or another would be impacted if Putin continues on this path?”

Bacon: “Eventually yes… if we don’t stand up to this, there’s going to be more countries taken, I mean Putin says he wants to restore his old borders… we should take him at his word.”

Bacon announced earlier this year he would not run for re-election in one of country’s most competitive swing districts.

Now, he can ensure he leaves a legacy he is proud of, for Nebraska… and himself.

“I’m an American before I’m a partisan, and we have too much shirts versus. skins here,” Bacon said. “We shouldn’t be opposed to working together, that’s what our constitution forces on us, its consensus building, and I hope I’ve been able to live up to that, that standard.”
