LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — NV Energy has filed with the Public Utilities Commission to add additional refunds to over 42,000 customers impacted by a rate misclassification.

According to NV Energy, after the error was discovered $5.4 million was initially refunded to customers. The power company now says they will offer an additional $32.6 million, which would include interest to the current and former customers affected.

This misclassifications were issued on or around June 23, 2017.

“We regret the impact this error has caused our customers, It’s important that we learn from this mistake and seek continuous improvement. We are committed to ensuring our systems and processes reflect accuracy and accountability moving forward and are implementing better procedures and controls to prevent this from happening again.”

NV Energy says in addition to issuing the refunds they plan to hire a third party company to review and determine accuracy on the corrective actions taken to rectify the impact to customers.

The PUCN will review the proposal before any refunds are issued. Once they are approved, NV Energy says checks will be mailed to customers.
