Warsaw aims to construct a railway connecting Silesia (a region spanning parts of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Germany) with Odesa in Ukraine, as well as a port on the Black Sea, said Bartłomiej Babuśka, the head of the Industrial Development Agency (ARP). He stated that Poland is prepared to build a Euro-gauge railway from Lviv to Odesa within Ukraine. This project involves investment of tens of billions of euros, including land purchases along the route, which extends over 800 kilometers. Babuśka mentioned that discussions regarding the Euro-gauge railway to Odesa have already taken place with Ukraine. A major part of the agency’s plans is expanding the railway terminal in Slavkov, which is expected to be completed in two years.
“Just as the meaning of Poland’s existence is to protect Ukraine from Russia, the meaning of Poland’s existence is to develop infrastructure in the east. For the first time in history, we can own a seaport on the Black Sea”, Babuśka said.
It is also worth noting that the Polish Ministry of Agriculture previously expressed interest in leasing or purchasing a port in Odesa.
