In the same streets in the New Belgrade municipality of the capital, where one month ago police fired tear gas at demonstrators, armoured vehicles have been driving around for ten days while military jets have been flying noisily overhead. 

It’s all part of the preparations for a grand military parade that the authorities are organising in the capital, Belgrade. 

The parade on Saturday is designed to crown the celebrations marking the annual Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and the National Flag, a national holiday celebrated since 2020 in both Serbia and Bosnia’s Serb-led entity, Republika Srpska.
