Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina are very close to each other, due to their deep historical, cultural, geographical and other ties, and especially due to the Bosniak people who form a strong bond between these two countries, said the president of the Bosniak Council in Montenegro, Suljo Mustafić.

As stated in a statement by the Bosniak Council in Montenegro, Mustafić was a participant and panelist at the International Scientific Symposium “Usora and Soli – Bosnian Lands – 800 Years Since the First Written Mention” at the Faculty of Law of the University of Tuzla, on the topic “Cultural and Religious Influences – Coexistence of Religious Communities and Cultural Syncretism”.

“Mustafić said that the deep millennial statehood and identity of both Montenegro and Bosnia are undeniable from a historical point of view, but that their right to self-determination has often been challenged and attacked, even today, with the same intention – to keep them in a state of cultural, economic and political inferiority,” the statement said.

The Bosniak Council added that Mustafić emphasized that despite this, both Montenegro and Bosnia are demonstrating their state-building vitality, and that the greatest support for it has been the interpenetration of other civilizations and multicultural and multiethnic diversity.

“They carry a special meaning and perhaps even better reflect the deep and lasting civilizational ties between the peoples of the Mediterranean region. The task of our institutions that nurture cultural identities is to preserve uniqueness and affirm them in society, but also to build bridges of understanding between differences. I believe that these values, as the past has shown, should be persevered on and, despite the challenges, built on differences that are understood and respected, with the only possible European perspective,” said Mustafić.
