Calendar. On September 23, 1939, Major Henryk Dobrzański pseud. “Hubal” made a decision that changed the fate of Polish resistance – in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains formed the first permanent partisan unit, known as the separated unit of the Polish Army, or “Hubalczyce”. Initially, there were about 50-60 soldiers in its ranks, mainly lancers from the 110th reserve Uhlans Regiment and other distributed units that refused surrender after the fall of the September campaign. Hubal, as one of the few officers, did not recognize the end of the fighting in September 1939 and decided to continue the resistance to the occupier. Hubal’s branch was distinguished by the fact that he initially fought in the full uniforms of the Polish Army, not as a typical underground guerrilla, but as a regular military unit acting at the back of the enemy. For several months he conducted subversive and offensive activities in the Kielce region and in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, rolling numerous skirmishes with Germany. One of the most famous victories was the battle of Hucca on March 30, 1940, in which Polish uhlans broke the stronger German unit, proving that the occupier was not undefeated. The Germans reacted to these actions with a wave of brutal repression. In the spring of 1940 they began the so -called “Hubal pacifications”, during which they pacified over thirty villages in the region of Końskie, Opoczna and Kielce. Over 700 civilians were murdered then, hundreds of farms were burned, entire villages were razed to the ground. It was the price that civilians paid for the help and support of Hubal soldiers. Major Henryk Dobrzański himself was a soldier with great experience. He was born on June 22, 1897 in Jasło. He took part in the fighting of the Polish Legions, fought in the Polish-Ukrainian and Polish-Bolshevik war. He was characterized by courage, stubbornness and extraordinary loyalty to his homeland. When in December 1939 he received from the command of the Armed Struggle Association the order to dissolve the unit, he refused, claiming that Poles must be aware that the Polish army was still fighting and not capitulated. #Hubal #Henrykdobrzański #hubalczycy #raised #September1939 #historiapolski #IIwieświatowa #Polishopór #Góra Świętokrzyskie #bitwapodhucisku #pacyf
