Odus Evbagharu, former chair of the Harris County Democratic Party, is running for the Texas House of Representatives.
Odus Evbagharu, the former chair of the Harris County Democratic Party, announced his bid for the Texas House of Representatives on Tuesday. He is seeking to replace Houston-area state Rep. Jon Rosenthal, a fellow Democrat who is running for a seat on the Texas Railroad Commission.
Evbagharu previously served as a chief of staff for Rosenthal, and he’s listed by the state Democratic Party as its treasurer.
“At every step of my life — whether in Cy-Fair schools, the University of Houston, or serving as the youngest Chair of the Harris County Democratic Party — I’ve seen the power of us when we come together,” Evbagharu said in a news release. “This campaign isn’t about me. It’s about US — our schools, our families, our neighborhoods, and our future.”
Evbagharu listed public education, economic security, affordable healthcare, reproductive freedom and public infrastructure as his top priorities. He’s the first candidate to announce a bid for Texas House District 135, saying in his news release that he would be the youngest and first Black member to represent that district if elected.
District 135 serves an area that includes Northwest Houston, Cypress and Jersey Village.
