The Cabinet of Ministers has defined the procedure for deploying servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard to the NATO-Ukraine Joint Center JATEC, based in Bydgoszcz, Poland. This was announced on October 1 by the Minister of Defense, Denys Shmyhal.

As part of JATEC, experience exchange between Ukraine and NATO takes place, enhancing interoperability and contributing to the development of defense planning, conduct of operations, and the application of modern technologies.

“Also, in his words, in this cooperation ‘interoperability between the parties is achieved,’ and concrete defense-planning projects, the conduct of combat operations, and the application of technologies are being developed.”

In July 2025, the Ministry of Defence signed a technical agreement with the Alliance regulating the participation of Ukrainian personnel in the joint JATEC center.

According to the document, Ukrainian servicemen are to be sent to the center for training, experience sharing, and enhancing operational capabilities.

NSATU and JATEC: A Strategic Framework for Cooperation

At the NATO Summit in Washington in 2024, allies decided to establish NATO Support for Security and Training for Ukraine (NSATU) – a coordinating platform for providing equipment and training with the participation of Alliance members and partners, with a focus on strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.

NSATU’s goal is to provide consistent, predictable, and coordinated security support for Ukraine and lay the groundwork for further cooperation in defense.

It was also decided to establish the Ukraine-NATO Joint Center for Analysis, Preparation and Training (JATEC) – an important pillar of practical cooperation that allows identifying and applying lessons learned from the war to enhance Ukraine’s operational interoperability with NATO.

In February 2025, in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, the JATEC center was officially opened, becoming the first civil-military organization jointly managed by NATO and Ukraine.

Its work is designed to strengthen Ukraine’s defense sector, bolster its deterrence and defense, and ensure full operational interoperability with NATO.
