Media freedom and the safety of journalists are the pillars of a democratic society. In this context, the Ministry of Interior emphasizes its continuous and active cooperation with associations and institutions working to protect the rights and safety of journalists.

As part of this commitment and close cooperation between the MUP and the AJM, a link to the register of attacks on journalists has been placed on the MUP’s homepage, which leads to the AJM website where the register is published. This register presents cases of violations of journalists’ rights, with details on the type of attack, location, status of the report and procedure.

The safety of journalists is one of the main priorities for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and in recent years intensive work has been carried out in this area, and the results of this commitment are visible. Among other things, a contact point was also appointed, which contributed greatly to the faster and more efficient resolution of cases related to journalists. Of course, in coordination with the Joint Investigation Team, the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues to work in this area.

The establishment of the National Committee for the Protection of Journalists is an interdepartmental body, a combination of government institutions and non-governmental organizations, among others, related to the field of journalism. The establishment process is ongoing and after its finalization, one of the main tasks will be the adoption of a National Action Plan for the Protection of Journalists. This is a process that is being implemented within the framework of the Council of Europe’s campaign for the Safety of Journalists, in coordination with the national contact point. /Telegrafi/
