MBDA announced the production contract for the new Teseo Mk2/E new generation anti-ship missile with the Italian Navy for use on FREMM EVO, PPA, and DDX.

MBDA will begin the production of Teseo Mk2/E anti-ship missiles, succeeding Otomat Mk IV anti-ship missiles, for the new warship types of the Italian Navy, including FREMM EVO frigates, PPA OPVs, and the future DDX destroyers.

Considering the fact that PPA (Thaon Di Revel-class) is in service and new ships are being built, the heavy OPVs are likely to be the first to receive the new anti-ship missile incorporating new capabilities. FREMM EVO, as a significant upgrade on Italian FREMM frigates, is likely to follow, as DDX is a long-term project.

Teseo Mk2/E is a new anti-ship missile fitted with a dual-mode AESA RF+EO seeker, a body with reduced radar signature, and a turbojet engine for increased range. The low-bypass turbofan engine with higher efficiency provides a range of 350+ km while the dual-mode seeker allows land attack capabilities, including terrain following, thanks to the EO seeker.
