GLPS researcher: Without a functioning government and assembly, Kosovo will face negative consequences internationally

The Group for Legal and Political Studies raises the alarm about negative consequences for Kosovo in the international arena if the institutional blockade continues. GLPS researcher Besar Gërgi said that without a functional government and assembly, Kosovo will be stuck in integration processes, including membership in the EU and the Council of Europe.
Also, according to him, in the absence of an Assembly, Kosovo is also risking losing funds from the EU Growth Plan.
“Without a functional government and assembly, Kosovo can expect negative consequences on the international level. First of all, membership in international organizations is important for the country. We have applied for membership in the EU and the Council of Europe. These applications will stall without a functional government that can lobby in favor of membership. Without a government with a full mandate, there will be no Kosovo foreign policy to push these processes forward. Secondly, without a functional assembly, Kosovo cannot fulfill its international obligations. There are many agreements that require ratification in the Assembly. As GLPS, we have drawn attention to the EU Growth Plan… since this agreement has not been ratified in the Assembly, we cannot even receive the 62 million euro funding, and finally, Kosovo needs a more pro-active diplomacy and a minister in office, we cannot have an active foreign policy. Kosovo urgently needs a government with a full mandate and an assembly so that foreign policy can move forward quickly,” Gërgi told RTV21.
