Veteran defender Steve Borg will bid farewell to the national team in a home friendly international against Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Malta Football Association announced.
Borg, who is now on the books of Valletta FC, has been missing from the national team set-up for a few months now but is set to be recognised for his efforts for his country in what is being seen as a testimonial match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Sunday, October 12.
The 37-year-old defender has been one of the cornerstones of the national team, enjoyed a distinguished career that has seen him represent our country 81 times at the senior level.
“Veteran defender Steve Borg, of Valletta, makes a return to the squad but will only be available for the Bosnia and Herzegovina friendly,” the MFA said in a statement that announced national coach Emilio De Leo’s provisional squad ahead of this month’s double header that includes a World Cup qualifier against the Netherlands.
“That match will serve as his final appearance for the national team, marking the end of a distinguished international career in what is seen as his testimonial match.”
