Dodik softens: Republika Srpska cannot secede from Bosnia and Herzegovina

Milorad Dodik spoke in soft tones at a press conference today, after months of threats that Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing a very challenging period.

In his speech, the former president of the entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republika Srpska, touched on several current political issues, including the possibility of the division of the Bosnian state and cooperation with foreign countries, reports. klix.ba.

“Our policy towards the EU remains very skeptical and their policy is based on the unequal treatment of RS. We reject the activities of (European Commissioner for Enlargement) Marta Kos (who visited Bosnia and Herzegovina yesterday), who claims that RS has a plan or is implementing secession. RS cannot implement secession (partition) and it is a contracting party to an international agreement, and it can only withdraw from it,” he stressed.

Speaking about the Growth Plan, as one of the conditions for continuing Bosnia and Herzegovina’s path towards the EU, he assessed that this plan is almost impossible to approve. In fact, he emphasized under what conditions it could be approved.

“The Growth Plan has 133 points and almost 700 remarks, and almost no one knows what it is. We will put this issue on the agenda, and if it is in the interest of RS, it will be approved, if not, it will be rejected,” Dodik said.
