Georgian riot police fired tear gas and used water cannons during clashes with protesters in the capital, Tbilisi, late Saturday that followed municipal elections shunned by opposition parties.
Police dispersed demonstrators who attempted to enter the presidential palace after thousands of opposition supporters attended an anti-government rally in the city center, the Interfax news service reported.
