ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Whole Health Department is sharing the low or no-cost breast cancer screenings available in Tompkins County for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Mammograms and other screenings, such as ultrasound, MRIs, and physical exams, are key to detecting breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable. According to the NYS Department of Health, in Tompkins County 83% of women age 50-75 received breast cancer screenings in 2021.

The TCWH department is partnering with Guthrie Lourdes Cancer Services Program to bring the Mobile Mammography Van at Tompkins County Whole Health (55 Brown Rd., Ithaca) on Wednesday, October 29th.

You are eligible to use the van for breast screening if:

  • you are age 40 or older;
  • you have no current breast health problems or symptoms;
  • you have no history of breast surgery, or you had a biopsy over 1 year ago with benign results & no further problems.

According to the TCWH, you do not need to be a Lourdes patient to use the van. Your results can be sent to the healthcare provider of your choice. Insured and uninsured welcome! And no referral needed.

To find out if you are eligible for other low-or no-cost cancer screenings, you can call the local Cancer Services Program: (607) 758 – 5523.

The van will be at TCWH from 10am-6pm. You must call (607) 798 – 5723 to set up your appointment time.
